Ahhhhhh, Tiny Santorini!

We had a very early flight out of Rome so getting some shut eye on the plane was not hard to do. I woke about 20 minutes before we arrived to Santorrini and was able to enjoy the beautiful views from above. It was such a relief not to have a car to be responsible for. With just 14 square miles and just a few roads we opted to rent 4-wheelers when it came time to explore. We arrived at our hotel a little before breakfast was done so we grabbed a bite while they prepared our rooms.

They brought us to this room and inside we were all like "Yeah, Baby!!" Then we realized that it was the common sitting area. Our rooms were still lovely, but man......

Papa's room

Our balcony.

Hopefully this map will help you get a better vision of our excursions. Our hotel was located just to the north of Fira which is the Capitol of Santorini. This is where the cruise ships dump everyone off so we were glad to be a little out of the way of all that.

Once we settled in and Meg and I pick up our 4wheelers we set out to explore. Dad decided to take it easy at the hotel, but honestly I think the idea of crawling on the back of one of those things without a little scotch in his system was more than he was ready for. It was late afternoon and our goal for the day was to find a neat place for dinner. This is the view from Ia looking back towards Imerovigli.

Ia was defiantly a tourist spot with lots of shopping and wonderful photo ops. The stones that lined the little corridors were worn so slick that you really had to watch your step in certain areas or you'd be flashin' everybody!

On Santorini...it's all about the cats! These suckers were EVERYWHERE! Most all of them were wild but very use to people. There were even feeding stations that were set up for the strays that people could put food in. Like those weekend feeders you get a Petsmart. LOL I loved it!

You know..there's fresh fish...and then there's just caught out of the sea, hauled off the boat, walked in the restaurant and put on the grill fresh fish. Doesn't even compare! Yummmmm

A breathtaking goodnight.

The next morning out and about we decided to start at the tip by Akrotini where the light house stood. It was a pretty windy excursion and not very well thought out when choosing attire. Let's just say that traversing rocks next to a very sheer cliff while wearing a dress with high winds is not recommended if one wants to keep the color of their drawers a secret. I'm just sayin...

By the time we got down from the light house you could tell Papa had just about had enough of trying to keep tabs on his cap!

We then ventured over to the less windy side of the island and enjoy some lunch and check out some of the beaches near Perivolos.

We decided to enjoy our lunch at a neat Place overlooking the marina. It was a wonderful find and neat to discover that most all of the produce we enjoyed was grown right behind the restaurant by the owner himself! Gotta love it!!

Yep...more cats...

Loved this beer! If you can find it in the states, try it you will like it. And tell me where you find it cause I am having no luck at all. :(

Homie is ready to roll....

 4 Wheels and freedom, Baby!!!

We visited a little museum and were very surprised to see the art work on this pot! (7th century B.C.)

Some of the many cruise ships that came and went during our stay.

A view from above of Pyrgos.

This is the caldera side of the island looking out over the volcano, which is still active today.

This was a shot as we ventured over to Ia, overlooking the Vourvoulos area.

Chill'axin

This was neat..instead of spray painting graffiti everywhere (which we saw a lot of all over Italy and Athens by the way) visitors would find white stones and press them into the red dirt lining the road up to Ia... very neat!

Entry to and old church in Ia

It was neat to see how much the color of the beaches changed around the island. This was on the Kamari side where we were told we would find the "black bitches". Yeah, the accent got in the way a few times and we had to control our giggles, but hey, I had learned to do a much better job of hiding my twisted sense of humor since we encountered the "bed-wetters" back in Tuscany! LOL

Papa's chillin' at the beach.

This was awesome! This cliff was across from the black beach. To see how the "Miracle of Natural", as our hotel host called it, formed along the coastline was beautiful. Wind and water can be very exquisite sculptors.

Once we arrived in Kamari, we were greeted with a quaint little beach front village. There were lovely little open air shops, bars, and restaurant along the waterfront walkway. A great place to sit and have a relaxing drink and watch the occasional topless sunbather. Question? Why is it that it always seems to be the people who should keep their clothes on are always the first to take 'em off???

Yep...more cats.

On our way back from the beach we found this neat old cemetery...I see dead people!

Out for a night on the town! I love Dad's face in this pic, can't you just feel his enthusiasm!

Yet again, another stunning goodnight!

I could get use to this......

This little old lady was traveling along and I was mezmorized...

It was our last meal on Santorini, before our plane was to depart. It was just a little place, didn't think much about it, but it turned out to be one of the best meals of our stay on the tiny island! We let our waiter do the picking and boy were we glad we did. It was amazing!!!

Goodbye to Santorini....
